Peel & slice a handful of fresh ginger root. Simmer it in 4 cups of water for 45 mins. Squeeze 1/2 a fresh lemon into large mug, add ginger tea, a dash of cayenne pepper and enough honey so you can stand it (I do 3 tbls. of honey).
Apparently the cayenne is good to get your blood flowing. The ginger is an antiseptic and gets through your whole system and helps purge harmful microbes.* It’s very soothing when you are stuffy, and seems to lessen the duration and symptoms.*
*Disclaimer: this is not ‘proven’ or approved by the FDA, though the recipe dates back to ancient China, and Captain Picard was seen ordering ginger tea, hot, through the replicator on Star Trek to alleviate his own cold symptoms. That’s good enough for me! So here it is – please feel free to share with others whom it might help! xx – Eve
